Job Overview

Overview:

To work with the Portering Manager to set and maintain standards for the Portering service. Helping to promote and improve the service to and assisting with implementing any internal agreements and or service improvements.

Main Duties :

  • To supervise the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the shift system appropriate to the base site. To manage staff within the team, providing them with information, guidance to enable them to undertake their responsibilities and duties. To provide a quality service in line with the directorate Service level agreement, and help in consultation with the Portering Manager implement agreed changes.
  • Authorise overtime cover for late reported sickness in order to ensure that there is sufficient cover for the shift, always ensuring that staffing levels are strictly monitored and cost effective.
  • To assist with the induction and training of staff members, including the retention of accurate records and data.
  • To deputise for the Portering Manager as required.
  • Where appropriate respond to crash calls
  • Required to work the shift system appropriate to the base site.
  • Undertaking of annual performance appraisals
  • Take an active role in promoting health and safety in the workplace. To be pro-active and where possible eliminate hazards.
  • Ensure that staff use adequate equipment including PPE, report any shortfalls
  • Have the ability to organise a team of staff and demonstrate leadership skills. This will involve dealing with non routine situations.
  • Be able to communicate effectively with all grades of staff, patients and visitors, striving to provide the best possible service for customers.
  • To participate with recruiting staff as and when required including sitting on interview panels
  • Produce electronic/written records as and when required, including duty rotas. Update systems used within the Portering Department including task management and rostering systems.
  • To ensure that all team members are able to respond effectively to all medical and non-medical emergencies including fire and major incidents.
  • Carry out internal audits with the emphasis on improving and promoting the service and responding appropriately to customer feedback.
  • Manage performance in line with trust policy. Interact informally with staff members to resolve performance issues, issuing warnings as and when required.
